We're all about exciting family adventures, while teaching kids short
and long-term. In short, that's self reliance.
When I was single, I lived through the big earthquake in Los Angeles and the riots when
countless buildings were burned and vandalized. Frankly, it was unsettling.
I wasn't ready. I felt deeply vulnerable because I wasn't prepared.

Now that I have kids, I want to be prepared for whatever difficulties may come. Emergency disaster preparedness has become a priority for me. However, I don't want my kids to live in fear.
How to strike a balance?
How do we deal responsibly with the harsh realities of our changing world, while teaching our children to enjoy it at the same time?
If you're anything like me, you might ask, how can I add this to all the things I already do for my family?
Here's the good news. Survival and self sustaining activities are fun for kids!
Kids Love Growing Stuff
As parents, we look around and read the signs of the times. Although I long to paint a picture of a bright and happy future for my children, I can't help but notice the strong possibility of a fundamental change gathering on the horizon.
Our parents took a lot of things for granted that, frankly, I think we ought to question. For example:
We've gathered some information on this site to help you answer this question for your own family. We've also pulled together a step-by-step reference program we call a "blueprint". Feel free to download it and use it to help grow your family's level of self reliance. 12 step blueprint.
We've implemented the first steps of the blueprint and we're on our way.
Our strategy:
There's 3 levels to coordinate:
1. The Immediate ~ Emergency Preparedness
While getting the ball rolling for mid-range and long-term
2. The Mid-Range ~ Begin where you are, AS you plan to continue
By practicing multiple-levels of survival skills and planting seeds now, literally
3. Long-Term ~ Achieve the level of reliance that suits your family
Protect, prepare and preserve your family with our free Growing Self Reliance Blueprint. It's a 12 step process to greater freedom and independence!
Follow the blueprint. Choose the level of resiliancy and sustainability that is right for your family.
Implement each step according to the time frame that works for you.
Here's a website from FEMA with lots of great activities to help you get started as well.
Go for it! It's not too late. Plan ahead.
Include the kids and have fun! Be prepared, while it's still an option.
